Abstract:

【Abstract】 Objective To investigate the surgical method of endoscopic-assisted excision of second branchial cleftcysts via retroauricular approach and evaluate its feasibility effectiveness and safety. Methods From November 2008 to February 2011, six patients with second branchial cleft cysts accepted endoscope-assisted excision via retroauricular hairline approach. Results All operations were successfully performed using the endoscope-assisted approach in retroauricular region. There were no conversions of the vianeck approach operations and no postoperative complications were found such as wound infection, bleeding,hematoma and mecrosis of skinflap, injury of great auricular nerve or facial nerve. Average follow-up period was 36 months.(range from:.22-51 months). No tumor recurrence..was found A good cosmetic results were got in all csses after operation. Conclusion Endoscope-assisted excision of second branchial cleft cysts via retroauricular hairline approach possesses feasibility,safety,effectiveness,adequate exposure of operative feild and a good cosmetic results. So it would be considered as a new surgical method for this disease.
